A Prayer for Peace, in the Face of Violence

October 23, 2014

In light of this week’s attacks in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Ottawa, I invite us to share the following prayer, which we offered at yesterday’s Holy Eucharist:

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed: Kindle, we pray thee, in the hearts of all people the true love of peace, and guide with thy pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility thy kingdom may go forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Rest eternal grant to the fallen, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Give your comfort and strength to the families of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, and the families of the perpetrators of this violence, in their loss, we pray. Amen.

Embedded below is the song “Let There be Peace on Earth,” which we sang at yesterday’s Service.
