Please Pray for (and Attend, if Possible) Our January 26 Annual Meeting of Parishioners

January 21, 2014

As our January 26 Annual Meeting of Parishioners (AMP) approaches, I invite us to unite in offering up the prayers embedded below to our God of grace:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel in our Annual Meeting for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honour and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Book of Alternative Services, p. 676, adapted)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Almighty and everlasting God, who by thy Holy Spirit didst preside in the Council of the blessed Apostles, and hast promised, through thy Son Jesus Christ, to be with thy Church to the end of the world: We beseech thee to be present with the Annual Meeting of this Parish about to be assembled in thy Name. Save its members from all error, ignorance, pride, and prejudice; and of thy great mercy vouchsafe so to direct, govern, and sanctify them in their deliberations by thy Holy Spirit, that through thy blessing the Gospel of Christ may be faithfully preached and obeyed, the order and discipline of thy Church maintained, and the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour enlarged and extended. Grant this, we beseech thee, through the merits and mediation of the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, pp. 42-43, adapted)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guide, we beseech thee, Almighty God, by the light of thy Holy Spirit, the counsels of the Clergy, and Laity who assemble at our Annual Meeting; that thy Church may dwell in peace, and fulfil all the mind of him who loved it and gave himself for it, thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 43, adapted)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Almighty and everlasting God, who dost govern all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully hear our prayers, and grant to this Parish all things needful for its spiritual welfare. Strengthen and confirm the faithful; protect and guide the children; visit and relieve the sick; turn and soften the wicked; arouse the careless; recover the fallen; restore the penitent. Remove all hindrances to the advancement of thy truth; and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within the fold of thy holy Church, to the honour and glory of thy blessed Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, pp. 43-44)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
O God the Holy Ghost, Sanctifier of the faithful: Sanctify this parish by thine abiding presence. Bless those who minister in holy things. Enlighten the minds of thy people more and more with the light of the everlasting Gospel. Bring erring souls to the knowledge of God our Saviour; and those who are walking in the way of life, keep stedfast unto the end. Give patience to the sick and afflicted, and renew them in body and soul. Guard from forgetfulness of thee those who are strong and prosperous. Increase in us thy manifold gifts of grace, and make us all to be fruitful in good works; O blessed Spirit, whom with the Father and the Son together we worship and glorify, one God, world without end. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 44)
We’re also asking everyone to pray about the vacant positions we have on Parish Council in 2014: liaisons for Community Connection, Hospitality, Maintenance, Newcomers, Stewardship; and to approach those they believe may be called to these ministries, or step forward for them ourselves. Nomination forms are available from the mailslot on the Office door. I’m happy to be able to promise that there won’t be any pressuring people to volunteer for ministry positions at the Annual Meeting. We’re continuing our practice of not having any nominations from the floor for the vacant ministry positions. The AMP is meant to be an opportunity to gather together as a Parish family to celebrate God’s goodness to us in the year that is past, and unite in seeking God’s face as we step out in faith into 2014 and beyond.
I encourage all of us for whom St. Paul’s is our Parish home to come to the Annual Meeting of Parishioners. We value everyone’s insights and input deeply, and we’ll be overjoyed if you’re able to come to our Annual Meeting to share this special part of the life of our Parish. We aim to begin soon after 11:30, and anticipate meeting for around 90 minutes. Lunch will be provided free of charge. Many thanks, Dinah Breu, for arranging it for us!
If you’re planning to be present, please read the 2013 Reports for our Annual Meeting ahead of time. A hard copy of these Reports can be picked up from the Hall. An electronic version of these Reports can be accessed by clicking here.
