We Pray for Everyone Suffering from the Destruction of Typhoon Haiyan

November 9, 2013

We’ve all been following in the news the devastation that has been caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Many members of our Parish are from the Philippines, and have family and friends who are still living there. We join them in concern and prayer for their loved ones, all the people of the Philippines, and all the people in the other countries that have been or will be struck by this storm.

God of compassion, in the face of the devastation from Typhoon Haiyan, we unite in prayer today. Protect from harm those still in the storm’s way. And mend the lives of those in the storm’s wake. Bind up the wounds of the broken. Guide and strengthen all who are seeking those who are trapped, and treating those who are injured. Provide shelter for the homeless. Comfort the grieving. And all who have departed this earthly life, receive into your everlasting arms. Hold all your suffering children close to your heart, now and evermore, all for your love’s sake, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Pictures like the one immediately above make me think of the flooding that occurred in our Province back in June, and how so many people’s lives are still in turmoil. I can’t imagine what it is like for people who face destruction as deep and widespread as that unleashed by Haiyan. They will need our continuing prayers, and our willingness to be part of these prayers’ answers by reaching out with Our Lord’s love to help in all ways we are able.

You can find out how to reach out with the Lord’s love to the survivors of Haiyan through the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) by clicking here.
