The Cost of “Nondiscipleship” – By Dallas Willard

August 24, 2013

Dallas-WillardNondiscipleship costs abiding peace, a life penetrated throughout by love, faith that sees everything in the light of God’s overriding governance for good, hopefulness that stands firm in the most discouraging of circumstances, power to do what is right and withstand the forces of evil. In short, it costs exactly that abundance of life Jesus said he came to bring (John 10:10). (Dallas Willard, The Spirit of the Disciplines)

The above quote is of encouraging words from one of the “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) – Dallas Willard, a Christian philosopher whose writings on discipleship have had a great impact on many, including Richard Foster and John Ortberg. Dallas went to be with the Lord earlier this year, at the age of 77. His final words were “Thank you.”

In the Spring, we watched a DVD Study with Dallas Willard, entitled “The Divine Conspiracy.” Embedded below is a talk by Dallas from 1999 called “Living the Divine Conspiracy,” which shares the same encouragement that Study contained.
