Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty

We’re celebrating Trinity Sunday tomorrow at St. Paul’s, and remembering some of the deepest truths of our Faith. We’re remembering the mind-blowing truth that God is love, with subject and object in God’s own Being, so that God is a Community or Communion of love as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We’re remembering that God isn’t a problem to be solved, but a Mystery to be loved and worshipped for ever and ever. And so, we’ll be praying that through our worship, all of us will experience the Holy Spirit’s taking us by the hand to draw us into the life of the Blessed Trinity, God in Community.

At our 8:30 and 10:00 morning Services, we’ll be listening to words of Holy Scripture and singing hymns and songs with a Trinity Sunday focus. At both Services, as part of our response to the Word, we’ll be spending time with the above-pictured Icon on the Holy Trinity by the 14th-15th century Russian artist Andrei Rublev (via PowerPoint on the big screen) and music by the 20th century Russian composer Georgy Sviridov, to allow them to draw us beyond where our rational minds can go.

Also look for a way of thinking about the Holy Trinity based on John Wesley’s candle illustration in our 10:00 Service’s Children’s Time.

Triple C Service ThumbnailOur 10:00 worship is a Triple C Service. These Services, which usually occur on the fourth Sundays of the month like this, are Christ-centred, Creative, and Compact times together, in which we stretch ourselves and share worship in new and exciting ways. So there’ll be some other creative changes to our Order of Service at 10 a.m. as well.

As is the case at our “regular” 10 a.m. Services, Nursery and Sunday School are both taking place. After the Children’s Time in the Service, our young members, from preschool to Grade Six, will be leaving the Sanctuary to spend time together.

Everyone is invited to share this awesome time with God and with each other! Please spread the word!

Embedded below is the great hymn of Trinity Sunday, rightfully restored in the new blue Hymnbook to pre-eminence as Hymn #1: “Holy, Holy, Holy.” It will be our Opening Hymn at both Services. (The clip comes, appropriately enough, from Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Kew, Melbourne, Australia.)
