The Advent Conspiracy Continues at St. Paul’s This Wednesday Morning and Evening

December 10, 2012

This Advent at St. Paul’s, you are invited to share in the Advent Conspiracy, a DVD Study that is designed to help us, in the midst of the consumerism and busyness in the month of December, remember “the Reason for the Season,” and enter deeply the story of the coming of Our Lord Jesus to us and all the world. So far, 24 people are participating in the Study, which in weeks one and two, respectively, had the themes “Worship Fully” and “Spend Less.” The themes for the remaining two sessions are “Give More” (especially relationally) and “Love All.” Each Session can stand on its own, but if you would like to participate in the Study, and weren’t able to be at the first Session, you may want to watch the video embedded below, which is that Session’s DVD material.

The rest of the Study takes place at 10:30 a.m. or 7:30 p.m. on December 12 and 19

To help you decide if this Study is for you, three additional videos are embedded below:

This year, as part of our participation in the Advent Conspiracy, we are suggesting that the members of our Parish family make a special donation this Advent and Christmas to one of two outreach ministries:

At the local level, we are invite to make a donation to the Christmas Hamper outreach programme of St. Edmund’s Parish, at which our Assistant, Norman Knowles, is Priest-in-Charge. Each year, this programme provides over 100 families in the Bowness and Montgomery area with Christmas essentials. Over 200 boxes will be filled with food, as well as gifts for the children, to make the joy of Christ’s birth a reality for their neighbours. The hampers will be assembled in the lower hall from December 16 to 20 and delivered on December 21 and 22. Donations of food, Christmas gifts, and money are all being gratefully received. Delivery drivers and hamper preparation volunteers are also welcome. Please contact Irene Frulling at 403-288-5392 or 403-288-6330, or talk with Norman, to find out how you can help.

At the international level, we are invited to make a donation to our ongoing support of CAWST, the Centre for Affordable Water Sanitation Technology. This Calgary-based ministry works with local and international non-governmental organization (NGOs), governments and UN agencies to provide safe water in 63 countries around the world. One of the main ways CAWST does this is through teaching people how to make biosand filters such as the one by the Chapel in the Hall. These filters are affordable and easy to make locally, and have been shown to remove from contaminated water up to 100% of helminths (worms), up to 100% of protozoa, up to 98.5% of bacteria, 70-99% of viruses, up to 95% of turbidity (dirt and cloudiness), and up to 95% of iron. Each filter costs around $100 to make. For more information, you can check out CAWST’s website: www.cawst.org.

If you decide to make a donation to either of these ministries on behalf of a friend or family member, you can put into a Christmas card a card-insert on the Advent Resources table in the Hall with one of these two messages:

THIS YEAR, AS PART OF MY PARTICIPATION IN THE “ADVENT CONSPIRACY,” I’VE MADE A DONATION ON YOUR BEHALF TO HELP PROVIDE CHRISTMAS HAMPERS FOR THOSE IN NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH ST. EDMUND’S ANGLICAN CHURCH.

THIS YEAR, AS PART OF MY PARTICIPATION IN THE “ADVENT CONSPIRACY,” I’VE MADE A DONATION ON YOUR BEHALF TO HELP PROVIDE CLEAN WATER THROUGH THE CALGARY-BASED CENTRE FOR AFFORDABLE WATER AND SANITATION TECHNOLOGY.
