NEWS:

The Times They are a-Changin’:

Don’t forget that in July and August, we shall have only one Service on Sunday mornings, at 9:30 a.m.

Thank You to Kris Barton and Anna Seidel for Their Ministry Among Our Youth:

Kris Barton and Anna Seidel are stepping down from their ministries as Youth Liaison on Parish Council and adult Youth Group co-leader, and Youth Group leader, respectively. Thank you, Kris and Anna, for the outstanding ministry you have shared with our youth! We pray for our youth ministry, particularly for the leaders God desires to come forward for the Fall to offer themselves to serve and serve with the youth of our Parish.

Part of this leadership need may be met through a new venture called OneBody South. At our July 17 meeting, Parish Council will be discussing sharing with St. Peter’s and Holy Nativity  the funding of a OneBody South youth ministry staff person (our portion of this person’s salary would be $577.33 a month, or $6,927.96 a year). This person is already in place at St. Peter’s, and would be available to start October 1. Please pray for guidance for our Parish Council as we discuss this possibility together.

Our Nursery Ministry is Continuing over the Summer:

Many thanks to Rachael Brisbin and Bianca Bolton for offering to continue this summer our ministry to those children at our 9:30 a.m. Sunday Services who are old enough to be away from their parents but not old enough yet for Sunday School. Of course, everyone is most welcome to keep their toddlers with them in the Service. But we are delighted to be able to make this ministry available for everyone who thinks that they and their child would enjoy it. Please spread the word! Bianca, Rachael, and Anna Seidel who is taking the Summer off, are all certified babysitters.

We are Continuing to Look to Fill the Ministry Positions of Sunday School Coordinator and Youth Ministry Leader:

Even if we go ahead with joining OneBody South, we shall still have the need for one or two people with a passion for God and for sharing God’s love with young people, to coordinate our Children’s and our Youth Ministries. These two ministries, which could be combined into one, would be part-time (if Parish Council approves supporting a OneBody youth ministry staff person, the number of hours would be around 13 per week combined – 8 hours per week for children’s ministry and 5 hours per week for youth ministry), with compensation being provided, based on qualifications and experience. If you sense that the Lord may be leading you to become part of the ministry team of our Parish in either or both of these capacities, please talk with Fergus or John McIntyre (the chair of our Christian Education Committee). For more information, please click here.

I Shall be Away in July and August:

I shall be taking my regular holidays in July, and then a one month mini-sabbatical in August, for rest and reading. I would like to offer my deepest thanks to Cyril and Norman for covering for Sunday Services and cases of pastoral emergencies (their numbers can be accessed via the Church Office number: 403-256-1428); and to our Parish Corporation and Parish Council for giving me this opportunity to recharge my batteries.

Laura Anne will be Away from Mid-July Through the End of August:

Laura Anne will also be away for much of the summer. This will mean that there will be no regular office hours during this time, so please call ahead if you need access to the building. Many thanks to our Wardens, who have arranged to check messages regularly.

In our prayers:

We thank the Lord for the improving health of Lorne Eason, Audrey Gasser, Kristy Laing, Anne Lowry, and Jeanette Marczi (Darlene Hollings’ mother).

We share the joy of Adam Nicholson, as he prepares for Holy Baptism on August 12, and we pray for the Holy Spirit to be outpoured upon him.

We commit into God’s eternal keeping Carroll Eggertson (Colleen’s mother), Dorothy Ann Bourgeois’ mother, our dear member Olive Ponting, and Mary Lee (Laura Anne’s mother), who passed into eternal life on June 9, 21, and 23, and July 8, respectively. Rest eternal grant to these your beloved children, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them. Amen. We pray for comfort for Colleen, Richard, Maja, and Len; Dorothy Ann and Paul; Wayne and Lynn; Laura Anne, Chris, Daniel, and Andrew; and all in their families.

We pray for Our Lord’s healing touch upon Audrey Gasser, Maureen Good (Frances Pike’s niece), Doug Irwin, Dorothy Lewis, Anne Lowry, Jeanette Marczi (Darlene Hollings’ mother), Dennis Moore, Lynda Mountford, Louise Mullaney, Kerry O’Shea, Nicola Peden’s father, Ken Penley (Linda Hubert’s father), Art Trundle (Rhonda’s father), Eleanor Turnquest, and Marlene Wright.

In their recent bereavements, we pray for comfort for the Coller-Styba family, Bill Hellyer, Lisa Matthews, Lynda Mountford, Janice Scott, and all the members of their families; and for the Hollings, Lewis, Roett, and Wood families.

We lift up all who are suffering in our own city, our country, and the whole world. In particular, we pray for healing for all who are enduring famine in East Africa and violence in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Syria. May all be sustained by the Lord of love.

We pray for wisdom and strength for those who are working for peace and justice in Egypt, Syria, and the Middle East; and for economic stability in Europe.

We thank the Lord for the wonderful country in which we are blessed to live.

We give thanks for the sixty years of the reign of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and pray for God’s blessings to be lavished upon her.

We give thanks for the richness in cultural diversity that we enjoy in our Parish family at St. Paul’s, and for our shared heritage as members of the Body of Christ.

And above all, we thank God for the Good News of life and love which it is our privilege to share in word and deed with God’s world by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God bless you all, always.

Your Brother in Jesus,
