You are Invited to Celebrate Canada Day at St. Paul’s Tomorrow

June 30, 2012

Canada Day’s falling this year on a Sunday offers us a special way to celebrate our country’s 145th Birthday together, at our 9:30 worship Service (in July and August there is only one Sunday morning Service, at 9:30 a.m.). You are invited!

You are also invited as part of your Canada Day celebration to offer the following Canada Day Prayer (adapted from the BCP and BAS), and to watch the videos embedded below:

Almighty and merciful God, in Your wisdom You moved our rulers and leaders to bring together under one government the scattered communities of this land, and to unite them into one country from sea to sea. We give You thanks for Your loving-kindness in giving us this good land as our heritage; for the wealth and glory of its plains and mountains, its fruitful fields and teeming waters; for the precious things of heaven, the dew, the sunshine, snow and rain in their season, and the precious things of the earth and all its fullness; for a land where there is food for all to share. For all this, and the opportunities thus given to us, we bless You and magnify Your Name.

May we prove ourselves a people mindful of Your generosity and glad to do Your will. Bless our land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honourable way of life. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance; and from every evil course of action. Make us who come from many nations, with many different languages, a united people. Defend our liberties, and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government the spirit of wisdom, that there may be justice and peace in our land.

When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and in troubled times, do not let our trust in You fail. Grant us grace so to sanctify You in our heritage that the world may know that You are our God for ever and ever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
