You are Invited to Tomorrow’s Birthday Celebration at St. Paul’s!

May 26, 2012

Tomorrow, you are invited to join in our celebration of the birthday of the Church!

Doreen Peters and Allison Pierce have filled the sanctuary with awesome decorations. The readings, prayers, message, and music, will all focus on opening ourselves to being set ablaze for God. As a symbol of our openness to the fire of the Holy Spirit, everyone is invited to wear red (Calgary Flames jerseys are perfectly acceptable!). And when we come to the Altar at Communion time, we are also invited to receive Anointing with Oil, as we open ourselves to an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As a reminder of the different languages spoken on the Day of Pentecost, and the universal nature of the Church, if we know another language besides English, we are encouraged to use it for the exchanging of the Peace. And no birthday would be complete without birthday cake – so there will be cake for us all to share at our post-Service Coffee time!

Our 10:00 Service will be Triple C worship. These Services are Christ-centred, Creative, and Compact times together, in which we stretch ourselves and share worship in new and exciting ways). This month’s Service contains all the elements listed in the above paragraph plus an imaginative two minute video rendition of Acts 2:1-21; an “acting out” of this passage by “St. Paul’s Players”; and the opportunity to express our desire to “let our light shine” through symbolism and song. For this special day, we plan to have our children stay in the Service and participate throughout. Nursery will be available for pre-school-aged children.

Lastly, we are crowning our Pentecost celebration with an Evening Celtic Service at 7:30 p.m.What better way to end the Day of Pentecost than to gather together, as did the Church in Acts 2, to seek the coming down of the fire of God together! Huge thanks, Margaret Anne Knowles, for crafting this wonderful time of worship!

Please spread the word, sharing this birthday invitation with your family, friends, and neighbours!
