The Description of Love in the Bible’s “Love Chapter”

February 14, 2012

The thirteenth chapter of St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians is often called the “love chapter” in the Bible. The beginning and ending of this chapter present love as the bottom line of existence. The middle of the chapter, shown in the picture above and the video embedded below, gives a description of love. This description offers an excellent way to see how well we are following our Lord’s New Commandment to love one another as he has loved us (see John 15:12). If we insert our name wherever the words “love” or “it” occur in this part of 1 Corinthians 13, the degree to which the statements remain true shows the degree to which we are living love.
