Two Quotes on the Joy of Lifelong Learning

December 16, 2011

As I mentioned in last Sunday’s sermon, for my 50th birthday, Gwen Stogran gave me a great little book entitled Old Age is Always 15 Years Older Than I am, edited by Randy Voorhees

Here are two of my favourite quotes in it, on the joy of being a lifelong learner.

The excitement of learning separates youth from old age. As long as you are learning you’re not old.
(Rosalyn Sussman Yalow, Nobel Prize winning medical physicist, who died on May 30 of this year, two months shy of her 90th birthday)

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.
(Muhammad Ali)
