At St. Paul’s, We Remember

November 11, 2011

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
(Laurence Binyon, 1914)

We gathered together at St. Paul’s on Remembrance Day evening, and shared stories from our families, read poems, offered prayers, and listened to and sang songs from the First and Second World Wars. All of us sensed the holiness of our time spent together, as we honoured those who have laid down their lives for us in war, past and present, and rededicated ourselves to hold high the torch of freedom, peace, and love that they have handed us. Many thanks to Doreen and Kerry Peters, Paul Bourgeois, Ken Brightman, Kathleen Robinson, all who shared stories, and all who shared their presence, for making our time together so precious!

During the evening, we played “Standing Strong and True,” a benefit song recorded by 28 Canadian Country Music artists in honour of our Armed Forces:

This Sunday, we shall continue our Remembrance Day focus at both our 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Services.
