A Prayer and Hymn for All Souls’ Day

November 2, 2011

Today, we especially remember the faithful departed, and Our Lord’s promise of eternal life to them and to us. At our 9:15 Holy Eucharist, we said the following prayer together:

         Gracious God, support us all the day long of this earthly life,
         until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes,
         the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over,
         and our work is done.
         Then, O God, in your mercy,
         grant us safe lodging, a holy rest,
         and peace at the last;
         through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

         (Eucharistic Prayers, Services of the Word, and Night Prayer, p. 63)

We concluded the Service by singing together the familiar words of Henry Francis Lyte’s “Abide with Me.” Thank you to “treblechoir99” for the following video, which has as its soundtrack a 2003 recording of “Abide with Me” being sung by St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir, London:

    Those of us in Arizona would love to hear about the memorial service for Len Mountford, please.
