Bringing One Another to Jesus

October 17, 2011

The disciples are not just passive bystanders in Jesus’ healing ministry. They are called to participate in the healing that takes place. So, for example, there are the mission of the 12 in Luke 9 and of the 70 in Luke 10. But for many, the classic demonstration of participating in Our Lord’s healing occurs in Luke 5. Here we see the friends of a paralyzed man bringing him to Jesus. We are following their example and bringing one another to Jesus at communion time this morning – by laying on hands and anointing one another with oil as we are told to do in Epistle of James. We believe that Jesus desires to touch us where we are broken … some physically, some emotionally, … all of us deep in our hearts where we need to be made whole.
