How to Heal Our World’s Open Wound of Hunger

October 17, 2011

In the feeding of multitude in Luke 9, the disciples participate in the healing of hunger. They bring food to Jesus. He receives it from them and blesses it, and there is more than enough for all to share. Today is World Food Day. We remember today that 1 billion people in the world are hungry. It is appropriate that it occurs always around a week after Thanksgiving, because we also remember today that we are called to share the gifts God has shared with us (for which we have given thanks) with others. And we remember that if we do, there will not be the open wound of hunger in our planet. If with thankful hearts, we give our food to Jesus, so that it is his to bless and multiply, there will be more than enough for all of us to experience healing together.
